YB Chesed Fund was founded in 1998. We help local New Haven families in need with Shabbos, Yom Tov and general living expenses.
It was named after the parents of its founder Dr. Yosef Tzvi (Josh) Sandman as their legacy. Yisroel and Bayla Sandman came to America in the early 20th century. Bayla arrived during the Great Depression and Yosef in the 1930’s, right before the onset of the Holocaust. They both were Moser Nefesh for their Yiddishkeit and refused to work on Shabbos and Yom Tov, no matter the cost. Giving Tzedakah and helping those in need was another core family value. They raised their son Yosef Tzvi with these values. YB Chesed incorporates the value of tzedakah along with sanctity of Shabbos and Yom Tov by helping those in need cover the expenses that comes along with making Shabbos and Yom Tov.
YB Chesed Fund distributes all funds collected, to families in the greater New Haven area.
